I have to live down here, and see this day by day. But I am one of the lucky ones. I don't have to live in a tent. I have been blessed with not having my home destroyed. It has damage, but not like what is is New Orleans. I have to see things that reminds me of the old war movies of Berlin when I go to other places right here in my state. Katrina did something to me to the degree that I denounced the Republican Party that I started serving while I served under Reagan, as a U.S. Marine. I was already showing signs of being against the so-called Conservatives, and was having problems with most of what they did.
Katrina did more than kill my brothers and sisters, it blew off the last blinders of what was once a Republican. I watched my people suffer and die at the hands of a Government that chose to ignore us, regardless of who was there. Republicans and Democrats died just the same.
My Parish went and rescued people, when Bushco claimed that the reason was, "New Orleans was Inacessible" and yet the Brothers and Sisters of our fellows, in Houma and Terrebonne Parish were in there and getting people out.
So what did Terrebonne get in return? After Rita, half the Parish was underwater. When people tried to get assistance, It was denied, because Bush did not declare it a federal disaster areas for 3 or 4 days!! Guess One Democratic area helping another, is not in the Bush manuel.
Now to the current state of Louisiana. When Katrina first came around, I happened upon a blog, and it was my first ever dealings with a blog. Every diary and post I do at the DailyKos, and The Democratic Daily, can be traced back to that one eventfull day. Every comment I make, can be traced to that day. I would like to change everything we have gone through down here, but alas I cannot.
So now the reason for this diary entry is that I have a comment from The Democratic Daily, that has sparked my insane will to help my people. Michelle came and commented this evening, and the message is loud and clear to me. People, if you forget Katrina, you forget the people.
If you can handle the truth, here are the words of Michelle unedited. Keep in mind, that the sight has nothing to do with the Senator. As with most angry people in my state, some will lash out as they will do in November.

I am a Hurricane Katrina surviver. I have lost everything. My home is completely distroyed. FEMA vauled my personal property at $1412.02. I sent pictures of my home that is totally distroyed. FEMA declared my home as insuffient damage. My home is off the foundation, on roof, on sheet rock, and all of my clothes, furniture thrown about with mildew and mold all over everything. And that FEMA says is insuffient damage. Senator Landreau what is suffient damage. Does that include the death of my daughter in my home. Do I need a body in the pictures to have suffient damage. Please respond at my e-mail address. Thank you for your time.
Are you willing to stop this war on our own people? Fight for us, we are in need of your help. We are Americans, and we have not been treated as such. Show Michelle and people like her, we still have something in the heart department.
